Many hair reduction devices have entered the market in recent years. But how effective are they really? You read good reviews everywhere, and why is the price difference so large? You pay around €400 for a simple small device, but that's not comparable to laser treatment in a clinic. Let us explain!

Temporary vs Permanent Effect

• • Damage to the hair follicle caused by temperatures below 48ºC is "reversible" and has a temporary effect.
• • To cause permanent hair removal/reduction, you need to create "irreversible damage." The hair follicle needs to be heated to more than 65ºC for a minimum period.

Safety

Laser equipment and home devices are therefore not comparable. Simply because the high energy that makes "laser equipment" so effective would be far too dangerous for home use. With improper use, it can cause permanent blindness to the eyes.

Why do people still experience hair reduction? Very simple: protein denaturation (= heating of the molecule causing the structure to be partially or completely lost) begins at about 41ºC. That's not much higher than the normal body temperature of 37ºC, which is why it's also possible to experience hair loss during high and prolonged fever. When users perform regular treatments, they cause the hair to fall out earlier in the growth cycle. And they experience less and softer hair growth. However, these hairs grow back every cycle. And when treatments are stopped, it will eventually return to its normal form.
